Hi all,

Hope you enjoy the video, it's hilarious.

Not much to report this week. Have booked myself in for a mammogram for next week. A little nervous as this is my first time. Wish me luck.

How to decrease anxiety

Hi all,

Here's a topic I know a lot about from personal experience. Hope these tips help.

Experiencing anxiety to a certain degree is a normal reaction to many different circumstances. Perhaps while waiting to see the dentist, before sitting an important exam or attending a big interview. Anxiety becomes a problem when it begins to interfere with everyday activities such as waiting in line at the supermarket, avoiding social situations or taking the stairs to avoid the elevator. There can also be times when it’s difficult to pinpoint what the anxiety is in regard to.

Anxiety is experienced in many forms. It can range from a slight uneasy feeling to a severe panic attack. Symptoms may include :

Sweating
Numbness
Hot flashes
Chills
Trembling
Shortness of breath
Rapid or irregular heartbeat
Fear of dying
Fear of losing control

The best ways to decrease anxiety fall into two categories; dealing with anxiety as it happens and taking daily steps to become less anxious in general.

There are several ways to deal with anxiety as it happens:

Talk to somebody

Talking is a great way to distract the mind and it doesn’t matter if the person is the same room or on the telephone.

Get physical

Any physical exercise will lessen those anxious physical symptoms. Cleaning, gardening, even a short walk will make a difference.

Focus attention

Try doing a puzzle, reading a book, playing a game or an instrument.

Take a breather

When anxious, individuals breathe more rapidly. Taking a couple of slow, deep breathes will help regulate breathing.

Daily steps to take to become less anxious:

Reduce stimulants

Stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine can aggravate anxiety. Many people find they are calmer and sleep much better when they reduce these stimulants.

Take the time to relax

Relaxation doesn’t mean just sitting still. To reduce anxiety, some form of deep relaxation such as meditation, muscle relaxation or yoga needs to practiced every day. The more deep relaxation is practiced, the more the body and mind will relax. Take a class or read a book on the subject of relaxation to discover what works best.

Don’t worry

Everybody has worries but focusing on these worries all day doesn’t help. Setting aside a certain amount of time each day for worrying will ease anxiety about them during the day.

Sleep

Being tired during the day from a disrupted night of sleep, will not encourage feelings of calmness. A well rested mind is a much less anxious mind.

Anxiety doesn’t need to be a burden. Following these simple tips can help reduce anxiety, but if symptoms persist or begin to interfere with daily life, seek help from a medical professional.

Keeping Up With KB

Hi all,

Whitesnake and I have been suffering with a rather nasty virus for the past couple of weeks, but it looks like we're finally on the mend.

On Sunday, we enjoyed a delicious meal with my parents to celebrate my Dad's birthday. I was a little dubious about the meal as it was at an Indian restaurant and I wasn't sure how my sore tummy would react to a curry. I ordered a vegetable korma with garlic naan bread and rice and was surprised I managed to eat most of the meal. It was sooooo good. All that food and a glass of wine for $14, excellent! The setting was the beachfront and the company was great.

Some parts of New Zealand have experienced an earthquake and aftershocks this week. Luckily, there hasn't been too much damage and nobody has been killed. I remember when I moved to NZ fifteen years ago, earthquakes weren't a common occurrence, but since the huge quake in Christchurch a few years back, the frequency has increased. I've only experience a short volt a few months ago and that was scary enough. Here's hoping New Zealand settles down again and everyone stays safe.

I LOVE reality TV so I've been enjoying watching The X-Factor NZ style. Jackie Thomas won the X-factor title this week and I'm so happy for her. A talented young lady who appears to be a real sweetheart. Let's hope she stays that way and doesn't fall in with the wrong crowd.

Of course, this week will be remembered for the birth of the royal baby. I'm so pleased the baby is here and healthy. Wonderful news.

I haven't written any articles this week, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it in a couple of days.

Well, I think that's all from me folks. Time to chill out in front of the heater and enjoy the rest of the day with Whitesnake.  Hope you are all well.
